“Things just mean more when you’ve lost them or think you have,” Ryan said to the group of ladies sitting at the table nearest the stage. “Everything that used to be blah now seems special. Am I right?”

“That boy is way more sociable when he’s drunk,” Pamela said to the group at her table before yelling toward the stage. “Come on down here and sit on my lap.”

“A few more sips of this stuff and who knows?” Ryan said over the mic, slurring his words, which drew a round of laughs from those paying attention.

“What’s that mean?” Matthew asked A.J., “I mean, I’d sit on her lap. She’s not bad for an old lady.”

“Hey. That’s my grandma, you idiot,” Lindy said, adding, “Gross.”

“I didn’t mean, I mean, I think all grandmas look good,” Matthew said laughing.

“You’re stupid and he doesn’t think any of us look good,” Lindy said as she pushed him on the shoulder before getting up. “I’m going to the bathroom. Libs, you coming?”

“You mean he’s a…” Matthew said but stopped when Libby gave him a mean look.

“Lindy likes you, dude. And yea,” A.J. said after the girls were gone.
